The Children’s Workshop in Smithfield offers high quality child care and early learning for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, and school age children. Our early learning program centers around our unique Children’s Workshop Framework curriculum, which combines RI Early Childhood Standards with the Massachusetts state standards and centers around play to provide your child with an educational experience unlike anywhere else.
Our school age buses and vans provide transportation to and from Smithfield and Johnston Elementary Schools. In addition, we service areas of North Scituate. If you are unsure if we service your area, please give us a call!
Our school is located on Cedar Swamp Road, right off Route 44 about a mile past the Smithfield Crossings. Our spacious layout gives a one-of-a-kind feel to the classrooms and allows each age group their own learning experience. We have two large playgrounds nestled safely behind our school to allow for lots of outdoor experiences, natural exploration, and safe gross motor time outside with similar age groups.
Parent Communication App
We have an extraordinary Parent Communication App that our teachers use daily to relay information and send pictures to family members, send newsletters, and track developmental progress for each child’s portfolio! With this application, parents/guardians are able to opt into email or text alerts and they can receive any information, instantaneously, about their child and their child’s school day.
Teachers and staff can tag daily pictures with our Developmental Domains (Social/Emotional, Physical, Artistic, Cognitive, and Language/Literacy) and are then able to communicate with the parents/guardians by adding captions or sending quick little notes.
Families LOVE this feature and we’re utilizing it more and more each day! We are so excited to be able to communicate with our families throughout the day and to show them what their children are learning each day.
For more information about our Parent Communication, please visit our Family Communication page or contact the Director of the school you are interested in learning more about!
We are VERY proud to be a NAEYC accredited facility and a BrightStars rated program! For more information about NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the high quality standards they demand of their accredited programs, please Visit the NAEYC website
Our school is conveniently open from 6:30am – 6:00pm and our affordable rates include breakfast, hot lunch and daily snacks. We invite you to visit us at any time; we’d love to give you and your family a tour. For more information or to schedule a visit, please call us at 401-233-2828.

My name is Miss Tanya and I am the Director of The Children’s Workshop in Smithfield. I have been in the field of Early Childhood Education for over 15 years and have worked for The Children’s Workshop since 2005 when I joined the team at our Seekonk location, later becoming our School Director in Central Falls. I started out as a classroom teacher and as my experience and education grew, so did my passion to make a difference in the lives of children and families.
I believe that every child deserves a positive early learning experience because it is their first love of learning that will help them grow into lifelong learners. I would love to meet with you and show what our school has to offer. I know we will leave a lasting impression!
Tracy has been in the field of early childhood education for 22 years. She started with The Children’s Workshop in September 1999 as an assistant director for one of the Massachusetts sites and has since served as director, regional, and currently as a VP regional overseeing seven facilities throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Tracy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Early Childhood education from the University of RI. Besides overseeing sites she has also managed successful fundraisers including golf tournaments, developed and given countless training sessions, and served on boards and committees. Tracy is currently one of the faces of The Children’s Workshop appearing on segments of “The Modern Parent” on Fox Providence’s morning television show, The Rhode Show. In her role, Tracy enjoys most supporting and helping the staff, families, and children she works with every day. When she is not working, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending time with her husband and children.
Love the staff, my son has been going here for a few years now and has always been an excellent experience.
Our daughter attended Children’s Workshop in Smithfield for 5 years. The only reason our second one is bot there is because we’ve moved out of state. The teachers have all been wonderful and provided a wonderful learning experience for our daughter. In her new school (K) she is far ahead of her peers.
This facility has one of the largest playgrounds of any other daycare we checked. CWS also has many extra activities they provide to keep kids engaged and entertained.
I highly recommend Children’s Workshop in Smithfield
Both my children have been attending TCW since 2013. They are attentive, engaging, flexible and affordable. I love their summer programs, and I love that they have transportation to and from so many local schools also for their before and after school programs. They have hot, fresh meals for breakfast and lunch, and their school vacation weeks keep the kids busy with fun activities and trips to parks, UNO’s etc. I know my kids are in good hands. The teachers come to you with any concerns or questions, and they are helpful with things like making sure my little red-head keeps his hat on outside during the spring and summer months. I highly recommend TCW, and know I made the right decision when choosing them for my child-care needs. They are very flexible, they will work with your schedule even if changes a lot like mine does (not everyone works 9-5 M-F). Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.
