Allergy Awareness

Did you know that every TCW location is NUT FREE? We know that having an allergy is scary, so we take every precaution necessary to ensure a safe and fun day for your child. Speaking of allergies, we had a mild winter and now we’re paying for it with the summer allergies! There are so many diverse types of allergies; outdoor, indoor, food, and so on. So, why do children and adults get allergies? Why do some people develop allergies as they grow older and some grow out of them as they age? Ms. Kelli spoke with our friends at The Rhode Show about that and more. Watch the segment here!

The exact causes of allergy symptoms are still being investigated. However, it is known that these are due to immune system pathways that lead to inflammation after an encounter with allergenic proteins in the environment. These proteins are often from plant pollens, animal dander, insect venom, or certain foods. (Mayo Clinic)

Do allergies ever go away? We do know that children may not have allergies as a young child and then develop them later and the same holds true for adults; they can have them as a young child, not as a young adult, and then they can come out again.  The question is, why do people grow in and out of allergies as they age? There is not one answer to this question – the only thing we can do is treat the symptoms.

Nut Allergies:  Nut allergies have doubled in the past decade, but scientists cannot seem to put their finger on why this is becoming so prevalent. Allergies in general are on the rise, but the nut allergy seems to be one effecting the most people. Doctors feel this might be due the proteins that are found in nuts that are not usually found in other foods. This is one of things doctors and scientist are beginning to look at.

Food Allergies: Food allergies tend to be more on the rise. At the Children’s Workshop we take allergies very seriously. Depending on the allergy, we will have one of our Health Care Consultants speak with the school director, the parent, and when needed, a care plan is put into place so everyone is part of the process to give the child the best care possible.  Everyone involved, from the parent to the teachers, are aware of the plan. As a result of the nut allergy becoming so prevelant, we all The Children’s Workshop locations are Nut Free facilities. We know this can be very concerning to parents of a child with any food allergy or other allergies that are or not life threatening. Therefore, we have nurses to consult with and to speak with your doctor, if necessary. If you are visiting an early learning facility, make it point to ask what the procedures are for allergies? We have an extensive plan in place, just ask and we will be happy to show you and talk to you about it.

Allergies in general are scary, but they do not have to be. Ask question to your doctor, nurse, and Early Learning Facility and that will hopefully ease a parent’s mind.
